Arctic Monkeys Let off a Real Stinker

The Arctic Monkeys were big winners at the NME Awards picking up three awards that night including Best British Band. The lads clearly in high spirits after their triumph and thought it would be a funny to detonate a stink bomb and were promptly escorted out by security. Of course, not before the lads had knocked off all the free booze at the O2 bar. Can you blame them?
One onlooker reported,
“The stench was incredible, but they thought it was hysterical. They stayed for an hour or so, but left swiftly after lighting up in the area.”
Well if you haven’t heard of the Arctic Monkeys by now after this stunt I bet you will. As for me I think the stunt was absolutely hilarious. I’m not a big fan of award shows and usually find them quite boring and stuffy. A far cry from the anthem of rock’ n roll, built around the idea of sticking it to the man, thinking for yourself and marching to your own beat. In that light, the Arctic Monkeys woke up the old crusty music executives and stamped their mark on rock’ n roll. I say way da go lads. Now that’s what I call an award show.
The Arctic Monkeys are essentially a stripped-down, punk rock band with a touch of the great British bands of the past. You can hear a lot of influence in their music from bands like The Kinks, the Beatles, the Sex Pistols, the Smiths, the Stone Roses, Oasis and the Libertines.
The band consists iof Alex Turner (vocals/guitar), Jamie Cook (guitar), Andy Nicholson (bass), and Matt Helders (drums). The band was formed in Sheffield, England, back in 2003. It was only a year prior that Turner and Cook received guitars for Christmas that turned these teenagers into obessed music junkies.
It wasn’t before too long somewhere around the spring of 2004 that they struck a deal with an indie record label. With the help of Domino the Arctic Monkeys saw their first single “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” debut at number one on the U.K. singles chart back in October 2005.
Since then it has been a wild ride with their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, selling over 118,501 albums on the first day of its release.
It’s sure to say that Artic Monkey hype isn’t expected to fade away any time soon. When you listen to their tracks the content and music these lads pump out is more relevant today then when the first time I heard them.
